Frequently Asked Questions
-
During a 60-minute assessment, either online or in person within the Cowichan Valley, you’ll receive personalized recommendations and plant education while we address your specific questions. It is a dedicated hour to evaluate your space and provide guidance tailored to your goals.
-
You are welcome to bring the design to life with your own hands; during our initial Seeding Session, we can determine if a self-build is the right path for you. This often depends on your comfort level and the depth of the project, ensuring the execution feels as intentional as the design itself.
-
Every Garden Design Plan provides either a foundational diagram and plant list or a more fully fleshed-out design, with the option to add custom details that align with your budget and vision. While these plans are developed to scale, they are considered conceptual unless a professional surveyor is engaged to establish precise property conditions.
-
The design phase typically unfolds over 3-4 weeks, depending on the site conditions and the complexity of your project. Once the plan is set, installation generally takes an additional 4-6 weeks, though timelines may shift with the rhythm of the seasons, material availability, or the coordination of other skilled trades.
Ideally, planning takes place during the fall or winter for a spring installation, or in the spring for a fall start. We typically avoid summer installations to protect plants from the heat, unless the project focuses solely on hardscape design.
-
While our hands are often in the soil of the Cowichan Valley, we do offer remote consultations and design guidance via video chat. By sharing photos and measurements of your space, we can collaborate virtually ensuring your garden thrives no matter where you are rooted.
-
Absolutely—nurturing the local ecology is at the very heart of the Plants Become Art ethos. We begin by listening to the land’s natural conditions, selecting species that invite pollinators and facilitate a thriving, resilient ecosystem as the foundation of every design.
-
We offer redesign and coaching services to bring harmony back to your project by mindfully adding, removing, or relocating elements. Together, we can refine your existing garden to create a sense of cohesion and better alignment.
-
Witnessing a garden flourish over time brings us immense joy. If you’ve chosen to install the design yourself, we highly recommend seasonal check-ins to ensure the landscape progresses beautifully. Tending a garden is an ongoing journey, and we are here to provide the tips, tricks, and coaching needed to support your sanctuary as it evolves through the years.
